Austrailia to Middle East: live transport of animals Pt: 1/2

Raised on large, remote farms, Australian sheep enjoy space to roam and very little human contact. But due to Australia’s live export industry, millions of Australian sheep suffer a fate far worse than death every year. They are destined for a horrific journey to slaughter overseas – herded onto a packed truck and driven across the country, sometimes in scorching heat. It’s then onto a ship where conditions are much worse. They’re terrified and will spend up to three weeks on the crowded ship. With around three sheep to one metre square, there is little room to move and an unfamiliar diet of pellets means many animals may not eat for the entire journey. Stress, heat-exhaustion, injury and disease result in the death of around 1000 sheep on each ship of 100000. Those that survive the journey arrive in countries with no or unenforced animal welfare legislation where they are often transported, handled and slaughtered in the most barbaric way. It’s just cruel. It’s also completely unnecessary. Australia already exports chilled meat to many countries it sends live animals to. Replacing live export with a growth in the trade of chilled meat, humanely killed as close to the farm as possible, will benefit both animals and Australia.

@waratahNSW What have to do the courage, the intelligence and the respect you were talking about with the brutal slaughter of a gentle, helpless and exhausted animal? This is plain cruelty, this brought the humanity so low. If that’s the courage, intelligence and respect you have then I wonder why were you born? Anyway, I wish to you all the “best” you wish for the farm animals. And I hope you’ll soon be choking with…of course, a chop of meat.

  3. johnnyeggbeater says:

yeah dont mules the sheep…. getting fly blown is so much more humane……

  4. In terms of U.S. dollars, Australian merino wool growers, who mutilate lambs with clips and shears, have lost millions of dollars in sales from American retailers Hugo Boss, Adidas, Gap, Nordstrom, Abercrombie & Fitch, Timberland, Victoria’s Secret, and Liz Claiborne, just to name a few.

Retailers don’t want their names nor their clothing lines associated with the savagery that takes place in the Australian merino wool industry, and as such have chosen to source their wool elsewhere.

    Spin what vegan boy CDLever?
Your comment: (In 2008, the Australian merino wool industry FORFEITED the sale of 500,000 bales of wool to clothing retailers).

Despite this horrendous Loss of wool sales (500,000) bales. Our wool prices have increased by UP TO 30% in US dollar term for the year.

Could it possibly be the Claims made by Peta of lost wool sales is exaggerated.
After all Peta are such a pillar of respect and honesty.

Yea right !! Peta tell the truth!!
    what a joke,
    Peta is a sham

  6. You seem to be having difficulty comprehending simple text, waratah. Here, let’s try this: In 2008, the Australian merino wool industry FORFEITED the sale of 500,000 bales of wool to clothing retailers who refused to source their merino wool from Australian sheep farmers who used mulesing mutilation on sheep.

    Spin that.

  7. waratahNSW says:

Is there NO limit to your blind ignorance CDLever.
You see your claim lost business to Euro retailers of 550,000 bales of wool is fascial.

The totals production of Australian Wool of all types is around 950,000 bales year to date.
So if, as you claim CDLever we have lost Over half of our total business.
    Then can you answer this????
For the year to date, the price of wool (20 micron Wool) the bulk of our wool production has INCREASED in US$ terms 32%.

Poor CDLever you are wrong again!

  8. On the contrary, waratah, it is you who has no respect — for the sheep whom you butcher, whose fleece you forcibly take, and when that animal no longer serves YOUR purpose, you then cart him off on a 3-week gruesome journey to the Middle East where he will be savagely slaughtered.

And that is how the selfish Australian sheep farmer treats the sheep who’ve given him his livelihood, which allowed for the farmer to provide for his family.

  9. 15 European clothing retailers, whose sales total more than AUD $100 billion, did not source their merino wool from Australia in 2008. That’s a whole lot of bales of wool — 550,000 to be exact — just from European buyers.

Actually, it is YOU who has lost. The only buyers who will source Australian merino wool are the Chinese, and even they are feeling the heat from consumers who do not want to wear clothing from animals who’ve been sliced, sheared, and castrated.

  10. It is Australian sheep farmers who’ve lost. Specifically, you’ve lost clothing giant
Nordstrom’s business, a retailer who launched their own 2009 line of men’s merino wool sweaters. Because Australia couldn’t guarantee that no-clip mulesing was used for the sweaters, Nordstrom decided to source all that wool from outside Australia instead!

  11. waratahNSW says:

It is SO obvious CD the only information you have about sheep is what you get from Peta videos.

It is so plainly clear from your comments that you have NO idea at all about sheep, or any other farm animal for that matter. I am quite sure you have never seen a sheep.
You U tube channel is a testament to the bigoted ignorance of vegan animal activists.
    You “CDLever” have
    NO intelligence
    NO respect, and
    NO courage.

You are a gutless bigoted troll CDLever

  12. waratahNSW says:

    Still cant answer my QUESTRION??
CD what did you eat for Christmas dinner???

How does it feel to be such a sorry sad little person, you CAN’T STOP the Wool industry,
    You CAN’T stop live export.

    You lose!!!!!

  13. Ultimately, all the sheep, including those raised for wool, are killed before their time. When sheep are no longer profitable to the wool industry they are trucked off to the slaughterhouse or carted off on ships to the Middle East where they must endure a gruesome journey and an even more gruesome death.

Nothing about wool is humane. It is one of the more barbaric animal exploitative industries.

  14. Without human interference, sheep produce just enough wool to protect them from the temperature extremes. Merinos have been genetically modified and specially bred to produce so much wool, an amount and quality of wool that would not occur naturally.

However did the sheep manage to survive with all that wool before you sheep shearers showed up with your implements to rough-handle, cut and infect their skin, and steal their fleece!

  15. loulou19891 says:

ALL WRONG!, OLD VIDEOS AND OLD INFO! Australian sheep are the most looked after sheep in the world! Our standards are so high! All this crap about they dont get water for 36 hours and crammed into small areas… the only time they are crammed is in the sheep trucks, if someone wants 2 fork out the money for them to take limos be my guest!, PETA should spend more time trying to educate people overseas that receive the sheep instead of having a whinge at us for exporting them! get prioritys right

  16. Surprise01x says:

    i gona throw up

  17. waratahNSW says:

Wool is not the same as leather or Fur. Because sheep are not killed for their wool like animals are for Fur.
In fact if Sheep are not shorn (Remove the Wool) they will eventually die.
Sheep are the oldest domesticated animal on earth.
The Images of slaughter in the Middle East makes most people sick.
Australia is the only country working and spending money to improve animal welfare in the Middle East
All Peta do is show these old, out of date sick videos and
DO NOTHING TO HELP ANY ANIMAL!!

  18. This is sick
